Akeredolu’s widow chides Aiyedatiwa over memorial lecture for late husband

• We’ll continue with the lecture, gov’s aide restates

The feud between the family of the late Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and the incumbent governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has again reared its head one year after the demise of the former governor.

The wife of the late Akeredolu, Betty, berated Aiyedatiwa for not involving Akeredolu’s family in the memorial lecture in honour of the late former governor organised by the state government.

Akeredolu’s wife, while describing the decision of Aiyedatiwa to organise a memorial lecture for her late husband as a pretence, accused the governor of rubbishing Akeredolu’s legacies in the state.

According to Betty, who took to her social media handle, “Lucky can’t be serious! Which legacy? Lecture, my foot! This is not for Aketi because I and my family are not aware. Damn it!

“As the saying goes: You and your co-travellers cannot shave Aketi’s head in his absence. You cannot weep more than the bereaved. This is insidious propaganda carried too far! Lucky, you are preoccupied with rubbishing Aketi’s legacy; you can’t succeed anyway.”

However, a source close to the family revealed that the family had, over the past five months, commenced preparations for the first memorial of their late patriarch and also sent an invitation to Aiyedatiwa but the governor refused to inform the family of any event.

Meanwhile, the state government has stated that the lecture slated for Friday to commemorate the demise of Akeredolu will be held as scheduled despite the position of the family.

Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ebenezer Adeniyan, said there is no need to create a fuss over the lecture organised by the state government to honour the late governor.

According to him, the state government has informed the family about the development and expressed optimism that the family will be adequately represented at the event.
