With a state of the art edifice that captures the view of the Atlantic Ocean, Lagos creek and the city, the Lagos Continental Hotel is leading the pace on building commercial tourism.

Attracting both local and foreign visitors on business trips, and tourists all over the world to Lagos, the five-star hotel located within the heart of the central business district of Lagos Nigeria making it an ideal location for both business and leisure has 23 floors with 347 rooms and suites hereby emerging the tallest Hotel in West Africa.

According to the Group General Manager Continental Hotels, Karl Hala, at a media briefing in Lagos during the week, “commercial tourism is essential to the growth and stability of a nation’s economy and this is what we’re doing with the Continental Hotels (CH), we are building commercial tourism. We are part of the Lagos Tourism Foundation. We are also working with Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry – we are members on the board of the Tourism Foundation.

The tourism and hospitality industry in Nigeria is enormous – if you go into the creative scene, the cultural scene, tourism is number three with about N1.2 trillion. Nigeria is great and we are here to write the story about the rich culture and heritage of Nigeria going back to the ‘50s and ‘60s. The opportunities in Nigeria, the resort tourism, boutique hotels, conventions etc. it’s endless. We have ensured to be involved in this greatness.”

Hala continued: “We are leading in both Lagos Continental and Abuja Continental especially with our convention centers. Here in Lagos Continental, we have the Grand African BallRoom (GAB), the Ariya Terrace, Boardroom size meeting rooms, Ekaabo Restaurant, Soho Restaurant, Milano Private Dining, Sugar52 Pool Bar, Wellness Centre, etc. We also just opened the Ladi Kwali Sports Village in Abuja.

And that’s a place, which features sports facilities from tennis courts and volleyball and squash and table tennis. There is also the brand new gym, which we just opened last month, together with the gym in Lagos, which we enhanced. Both of them, absolute top of fitness, anything you wish, we did with the gym. So this Ladi Kwali building, the sports facilities, we added two paddles and two pickle courts. Paddle is the fastest growing sport in Africa and in Europe. But it has existed since the 60s in the US and so is the pickle. So we have that in our premises in Abuja which serves as a hub for team bonding and the togetherness and brainstorming for smaller groups, bigger groups. We did the first paddle and pizza tournament in Abuja on our new paddle courts. 200 people came in from the embassies, the United Nations (UN), the ministries, everywhere. We have a very impressive selection of culinary options in both hotels, across 12 restaurants and bars. So we offer the finest of Nigeria and international cuisine.”

Speaking on the establishment of Abuja Continental Hotel following the Lagos Continental Hotel Hala said: “If you take it from a logistical level, Abuja is the capital of Nigeria. It is the hub of diplomacy. It is the buildup of corporations. It has an enormous space.”
