Take over leadership, join politics, Oluwo tells clerics, youths  

Oluwo of Iwo, Osun State, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi,

The Oluwo of Iwo, Osun State, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, has called on pastors and Islamic clerics, popularly called ‘Alfas,’ to take over the leadership of the country by joining politics in order to build the nation’s democracy and entrench credible leadership.

Oba Akanbi also urged youths to be bold and confident to make an impact and attain greater heights.

The monarch made the call during a book launch and award ceremonies organised by First Class Pre-varsity [FCP], Ibadan, Oyo State in celebration of academic excellence and milestones of the school.

At the event, seven books written under the guidance of FCP Director, Mr. Akeem Odebode, popularly called Mr. Prudence, were launched. Contributors to the seven books were unveiled and given the opportunity to comment on the books and their relationship with Odebode. The day was also Odebode’s birthday. Joining the Oluwo to launch the books were the Senator representing Oyo South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Sarafadeen Alli; the retired OBMS Senior Pastor, Dr. Remi Awopegba; and others.

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, who was the chairman of the occasion, was represented by the Oyo State Agency for Youth Development Chairman, Adebowale Falana.

Sarafadeen Alli, who was the chief launcher, called for more investment in children’s education.

Speaking, Oba Akanbi, who was the royal father of the day, charged youths to make an impact, saying: “You are not a leader if you cannot change things for the better. You must make a change. You must be bold and confident. Nobody uses cowards to lead. You must be confident of what you worked hard to earn.”

The royal father also urged clerics to join politics. He said: “I charge pastors and Alfas to take over the leadership of Nigeria. You must also join politics. That is the only recruitment process in a democracy. You must go into politics so that we can build our democracy.”

Falana said the state government would partner with FCP and make the books part of the state curriculum. He said: “Any parent that wants the success of their children must invest in their education.

We must thank Akeem for his efforts. Most of his books will be part of the curriculum of Oyo State. Governor Seyi Makinde will provide the necessary assistance for the books. We are ready to partner with you. The Oyo State Government will continue to partner with you for development.”

Dr. Awopegba, who was the spiritual father of the day, said he saw in Odebode a diligent man who demystified myths.

Also speaking, Odebode said the launch was a turning point in terms of education consultancy.

The educationist said the school would always exhibit excellence and mentor younger ones.

He thanked those who have contributed to his life and professional development. He said: “I am happy to launch seven books. It is a moment to appreciate. I thank Rev. Remi Awopegba, who embraces me as a son. He is a father.”
