Food security: Edo raises agric budget to N70 billion


Edo State government has earmarked the sum of N70b for agriculture in its newly signed 2025 budget, to address food insecurity and sufficiency in food production in the state.

The budget, tagged: “Renewed Hope for a Rising Edo,” according to Governor Monday Okpebholo, is meant to revive the economy of the state and deliver the dividends of democracy, with special focus on agricultural revolution, food production and infrastructural development. Okpebholo assured of his administration’s readiness to remedy the acute food shortage currently ravaging the country. He noted that the state’s 2025 budget was given a significant boost to address the agricultural needs and make Edo State food sufficient.

The Speaker of the House of Assembly (EDHA), Blessing Agbebaku, said the need to adequately combat food insecurity and create food sufficiency in Edo State, necessitated the upward review of the budget from the initial N605b to N675b.

Agbebaku pledged the legislative Arm’s commitment to partnering with the Governor in ensuring that the state takes the lead in agricultural revolution and solve the current food challenges plaguing the country.
