Labour Party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 election (LP) Peter Obi has expressed concerns over what he described as escalating threats to his life and family following recent comments made by Felix Morka, spokesperson of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement shared on his official ‘X’ page, Obi reacted to Morka’s remarks on Arise TV, where the APC spokesperson accused him of making irrational criticisms of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Obi questioned the basis of Morka’s claims and asked, “Have I really crossed the line? I ask this question because my New Year message has now led to threats against my life, my family, and those around me.”
The former Anambra State governor said he remains committed to speaking truthfully despite mounting pressures and accusations, adding that his resolve is rooted in the pursuit of a better Nigeria.
“If I have truly crossed the line, I invite anyone to point it out, as I remain committed to upholding decorum. However, I will not be silenced in my resolve to speak truthfully, especially as our nation continues to drift toward undemocratic practices,” Obi said.
Obi’s response comes after Morka criticised him during a television appearance, describing the former candidate as “shooting wildly” in his commentary against the government.
Morka also accused Obi of failing to leave a meaningful legacy during his tenure as Anambra governor and urged him to reflect on his loss in the 2023 presidential election.

Meanwhile, Obi’s followers, widely known as Obidients, had interpreted Morka’s remarks as a threat, prompting backlash against the APC spokesperson on social media.
The APC, in turn, has dismissed these claims, stating via its official ‘X’ account, “Felix Morka’s comments contained no threat whatsoever against anyone.”
In his statement, Obi reiterated his commitment to democratic principles and called for the preservation of freedom of expression.
“We are increasingly transforming into an authoritarian and repressive regime, where freedom of expression is being systematically suppressed. May God help us create a better and freer society for the sake of our children,” he added.
