The Vwang District Peace and Unity Football Tournament sponsored by the Director of Press and Public Affairs (DOPPA) to the Plateau State Governor, Dr Gyang Bere, has kicked off at the Vwang Central Football Field in Jos South.
      
Tagged Unity Peace Football Competition, the tournament features 10 teams.
 
The competition kicked off towards the end of December 2024, and it saw Wunato FA defeating Vwang Central FA 1 – 0 to secure the first win of the competition.
   
Speaking with journalists at that first match, Gyang Bere disclosed that the tournament was aimed at fostering unity among the people of Vwang District while focusing on youth empowerment.
 
According to him, the initiative seeks to harness the talents and skills of young people, guiding them toward personal growth and contributing to the overall development of the community.
   
He noted that the tournament was conceived to identify and nurture football talent within the district and address the lack of opportunities and mentorship for many skilled youths to showcase their abilities beyond the community.
