Dancehall artiste, Cynthia Ikponmwenosa Morgan, well known by her previous stage name, Cynthia Morgan, now Madrina, has warned fellow artistes to stop asking promoters for show features (low paying shows). According to her, many show promoters are exploiting celebrities.
The controversial rap act issued the warning on the heels of the dispute between Grammy award winner Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu (Burna Boy) and celebrity barman cum nightlife promoter, Pascal Okechukwu (Cubana Chief Priest).
In an Instagram post on Wednesday, Madrina shared her own experience from 2018, where she was also paid a similar amount for a show. However, the event organisers later claimed that she had been pursuing them romantically and accused her of stalking them.
She advised fellow artistes to stop undervaluing their talents and accepting low fees for performances in the name of getting opportunities. “Make artiste no dey collect beggy beggy show again. Na so Maleke beg me to pay me N1 million for the show for 2018. They later say na I toast them, say I even dey stalk them. Crãzy world,” she wrote.
In another development, the Don’t Break My Heart and Lead Me On hitmaker also explained why she will never reach out to Burna Boy amid the controversy surrounding his rumoured past relationship with Uju Stella.
Madrina claimed people advised her to contact Burna Boy regarding Stella’s interview, where the latter claimed that she and Burna Boy dated for three years and she got pregnant for him.
“For those sending me messages to reach out to Burna Boy, I won’t. If it was me I would reach out but he is probably still mad that I didn’t believe he didn’t impregnate Uju Stella in 2016. That’s what most men do. They lie and get mad when you don’t believe them. Something he finally admitted to online 8 years later. You all leave me alone. All the best Damini,” she wrote.
The songstress and Burna Boy have collaborated on music with their 2016 song, Acting Bad, a notable example. There were also rumours of a romantic relationship between them in 2015; though the pair did not confirm it.
