The Kebbi State Police Command officers have rejected a N1 million bribe offered to them by some suspected members of the Lakurawa terrorist group.
The state’s police spokesperson, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, made this known in a statement on Tuesday.
Abubakar identified the three suspects as Umaru Garba, 53, from Dangandu village; Alhaji Abubakar and Alhaji Mamman, both 51, from Maimaichi village in Arewa Local Government Area; and Usman Muhammadu, 50, of Bakaramba village in Argungu Local Government Area of the state.
The police spokesperson said that the suspects offered ₦1,060,000 to the lead investigator, stating that the bribe was intended to compromise the investigation and prosecution of a banditry case involving suspected Lakurawa terrorists operating in northern Kebbi State.
“The bribe was to compromise the investigation and prosecution of a case of banditry allegedly perpetrated by suspected Lakurawa terrorists operating in the northern part of the state,” he said.
“The suspects were immediately arrested, and the investigation is still ongoing, after which they will be charged to court for prosecution.”
Sequel to this development, the Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Bello M. Sani, commended the commitment and professionalism displayed by the detectives and urged other police officers to emulate them.
According to the Command’s spokesman, the suspects were immediately arrested, and investigations are ongoing.
Abubakar added that the suspects would be charged to court after investigations.
The state’s police commissioner, Bello Sani, hailed the detectives for their professionalism and urged other officers to emulate the professionalism of their fellow officers.
