The Rivers State Police Command has initiated a manhunt for the perpetrators behind the brutal murder of Precious Nnamdi, a vigilante member, in Ahoada town, Ahoada East Local Council.
The incident occurred on the night of January 14, 2025, when Nnamdi was intercepted and killed by suspected cultists while on patrol along Hospital Road. Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants, armed with guns, initially fired at Nnamdi, but when the bullets failed to penetrate, they resorted to using sticks and iron objects to beat him to death before fleeing the scene.
Nnamdi, a native of Ihuike community in Ula-Upata Kingdom, was later confirmed dead at the hospital.
The incident has heightened concerns about the escalating cult violence in the area, with neither of the two dominant cult groups, Iceland and Greenland, claiming responsibility for the attack.
SP Grace Iringe Koko, spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, confirmed the incident and stated that the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, has ordered the Area Commander and tactical units to apprehend the perpetrators.
The police have urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist in the investigation. Nnamdi’s remains have been deposited in the morgue.
