Groups vow to resist terrorists in S’West

Gani-Adams

A combined force of 15 militia organisations under the aegis of Southwest Security Stakeholders Group (SSSG), has vowed to resist any attempt to breach the peace and security of the region by members of the Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP).

The group added that it was ready to partner with the South West governors in tackling the threat across the zone. This is as it urged residents across Yorubaland not to panic, confirming ongoing efforts in addressing the security deficit in the region.

In a statement issued at the end of its quarterly strategy meeting held at the place of Aareonakankanfo, Gani Adams, yesterday, the group’s Publicity Secretary, Adewole Ireti, said it was incumbent on the Southwest region to have a strategic roadmap for security challenges.

The meeting, according to the SSSG, is a strategic response to the reported incursion of bandits and ISWAP fighters into some of the region’s forests. The group observed that the development was a major threat that deserved a drastic and urgent approach.

The body insisted that it had contacted all security structures across South-West in ensuring that the region is secure.  Leaders of the 15 groups present at the meeting include  the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC); Agbekoya Society; Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN); Professional  Hunters; Vigilante Jahun; Agbekoya Peace Movement; Agbekoya Solidarity Movement; COMSAIC; Isokan Ile Oodua; Egbe Obinrin Oodua Agbaye, and Omo Oduduwa United.
