Sule sets up panel to weed out ghost workers in Nasarawa
Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa has vowed to arrest and punish the killers of the state coordinator of the Fadama lll project, Hassan Yahaya Egwa

Worried over the huge ghost workforce in local governments in the state, Governor Abdullahi Sule, has constituted a five-member panel to fish out ghost workers across the 13 local governments in the state.

The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Sule on Public Affairs, comrade Ahemba Peter, made this known at the monthly briefing on Friday in Lafia.

Ahemba said the decision to carry out screening that will determine the true number of workers in the various local governments became necessary to block leakages and enable the local governments to pay the N70,000 minimum wage to staff.

Ahemba, however, stated that the collaboration with the local governments to weed out ghost workers does not translate to an interference with the autonomy of the local governments.

The governor’s aide also disclosed that local government chairmen have been encouraged to embark on massive agricultural activities to boost food surplus even as the state government has procured and distributed tractors to each local government.

Sule, according to Ahemba, directed that revenue generation should be centralised for proper collection without any form of leakages and accountability.

On the controversy surrounding the informal announcement of a new Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Ahemba urged members of the public to ignore the insinuation that Magaji was appointed.

Ahemba disclosed that the recent attack on the Tatara community, in the Panda development area was regrettable, noting that peace has been restored to the area and the presence of military has been established in the community to avoid any repeat.

He assured that those wounded in that attack are undergoing treatment funded by the state government.

Ahemba said the governor appealed to all residents in the state to live in peace and be one another’s keeper.
