Lagos seeks certified private professionals in building inspection scheme

To mitigate building collapse, the Lagos State government has begun applications for its Certified Accreditors’ Programme (CAP), a Public-Private Partnership initiative, to enhance monitoring and inspection of building sites within the state.

The government disclosed this through the State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), at the weekend. The CAP initiative highlights the government’s pledge to foster safer building practices through innovative partnerships and enhanced regulatory oversight.

The new scheme is to improve coverage across the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) of the state.

According to the statement by the Director, Public Affairs LASBCA, Adu Ademuyiwa, the government has formally opened the Expression of Interest (EOI) process for CAP at LASBCA’s headquarters in Ikeja.

Special Adviser to the Governor on eGIS and Urban Development, Dr. Olajide Babatunde, had explained that CAP was to address limited government capacity challenges by involving certified private professionals in monitoring and inspection activities.

Babatunde said the shortlisted accreditors would be selected based on their competence, experience, and familiarity with the local environment.
