Troops rescue hostages, destroy Turji’s hideout in Zamfara

The Nigerian Armed Forces have dealt a significant blow to terrorism in Zamfara State, killing scores of terrorists and rescuing several hostages in a coordinated operation.

The raid, conducted by troops of Operation Fansan Yamma on January 17, also destroyed notorious terrorist Bello Turji’s logistics hub and forced the bandit to flee.

In a statement released by Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, the operation covered areas including Shinkafi, Kagara, Fakai, Moriki, Maiwa, and Chindo.

The operation, described as strategic and carefully planned, is primarily led by special forces with support from the General Officer Commanding (GOC).

The special forces are supplemented by personnel from the Navy’s Special Boat Service (SBS), provided by the Theatre Command.

Among the casualties was Turji’s son, who was killed alongside several loyalists on Fakai high ground.

“The terrorist leader, Bello Turji, in a grossly cowardly act, escaped, abandoning his son and combatants,” the statement noted.
