Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger State has applauded the medical team of the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida Specialist Hospital Minna, after conducting the first brain and knee surgeries at the Hospital.

Bago, in a statement by his spokesman, Bologi Ibrahim, described the development as a milestone achievement and a major breakthrough in his administration.

The governor restates his administration’s desire to continue to revamp and improve the health sector to provide effective medical services to the citizenry, and also end foreign medical trips.

Bago commended the Management of the I BB Specialist Hospital Minna, under the leadership of the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Bala Waziri, for the significant milestone achieved and reassured that his administration will continue to provide all the necessary support that will take the Health Institution to greater heights.

A theatre team led by Consultant Neurosurgeon, Dr. Uthman Uthman, successfully performed the first brain surgery in the Hospital on a 19-year-old male, who sustained a severe brain injury and skull fracture, the patient is presently being nursed in the newly remodeled Amenity Wing of the hospital.

In a related development, a surgical team led by Orthopaedic Surgeons, Abdullahi Mohammad and Mustapha Ibrahim, had conducted the first total knee replacement surgery at the IBB Specialist Hospital, on a 65-year-old woman with bilateral advanced osteoarthritis of the knee and the patient is presently on ambulation exercises at the VIP wing of the hospital.
