Five dead, one injured in Lagos-Ibadan Expressway crash
Five people, comprising three men and two women, have been confirmed dead, while one person sustained injuries in a fatal crash along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The Guardian learnt that the incident occurred on January 19, 2025, around 11:30 p.m., near Fatgbems Bus Stop along the expressway. The injured victim was taken to AZ Carezone Hospital, Magboro, for treatment, while the remains of the deceased were deposited at Real Divine Hospital, Ibafo.
Confirming the incident in a statement yesterday, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, CSP Omolola Odutola, said the crash involved the reckless driver of an unidentified Mercedes-Benz Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV).
According to Odutola, the driver, heading towards Mowe, lost control of the vehicle upon reaching Fatgbems Bus Stop by Longbridge. The SUV crashed into a culvert, overturned, and landed in the opposite direction.
She said: “Three male and two female adults inside the SUV were confirmed dead, while one passenger sustained injuries. The vehicle’s roof was completely torn off, and the SUV was extensively damaged.
“Traffic police arrived promptly at the scene. Photographs were taken, and the injured victim was transported to AZ Carezone Hospital for medical attention. The deceased were moved to Real Divine Hospital in Ibafo for preservation.”
“The wrecked vehicle has been secured at the police station, and family members of those involved in the crash have been notified.”
The Ogun State Police Command urged road users to exercise caution and drive carefully to avoid similar accidents.
