NSCDC nabs six suspected motorcycle thieves in Kano
The Kano State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested six suspected motorcycle thieves. The corps’ spokesperson, Ibrahim Idris-Abdullahi, confirmed the arrests in a statement yesterday.
He explained that the suspects (names withheld) were apprehended on January 14 by operatives attached to the Kumbotso Division in collaboration with local vigilantes.
Idris-Abdullahi disclosed that the six suspects, along with two others currently at large, were part of a gang specialising in violently attacking and stealing motorcycles from unsuspecting victims in the Gurin Gawa and Bechi areas of Kumbotso Local Council.
“On January 14, at about 3:00 a.m., two of the suspects forcefully broke into the house of one Abdullahi Bala at Gurin Gawa, Kumbotso Local Council, assaulted him, and stole his motorcycle. The other four suspects are receivers of stolen motorcycles,” he said.
The operatives recovered two motorcycles during the operation, and efforts are underway to apprehend the two fleeing suspects. Idris-Abdullahi further stated that the suspects would be charged in court upon completing investigations.
The statement also quoted the NSCDC Commandant in Kano, Mohammed Lawal-Falala, directing the armed squad unit to intensify patrols along the Eastern Bypass to deter criminal activities in the area.
