Former Senate President and Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT), Senator
, has reacted to the reported remarks made about him by the former Governor of Rivers State, Mr. Nyesom Wike, stating that he would not join issues with him (Wike).
Reportedly, Wike, during a live television interview over the weekend, said that if he (Wabara) were his father, he (Wike) would have disowned him (Wabara).
Wike made the remark about Senator Wabara while responding to a question on the leadership crisis in the PDP, which both are members of, saying that it is unfortunate that the party has a man they call a former Senate President.
Wike said, “If that man was my father, I would have disowned him. If he was my father or related to me, I would have disowned him. He doesn’t qualify to be. No wonder President Obasanjo made a presidential broadcast under his tenure about corruption.”
The former Senate President, however, said that Wike, who is presently the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), should have refrained from making unguarded utterances, especially considering the respect due to his office as a Minister and a former governor.
According to Wabara, it was disgraceful for a supposed man of honour like Wike to have spoken without decorum.
“I would expect a man of his calibre and status to mind his language and words and be sure of his facts. But I don’t want to join issues with Wike and dignify him,” Wabara said, adding, “Frankly, for a son to disown his father, his father must have wronged him terribly.”
He therefore urged Wike to tell the world what he (Wabara) did wrong to him (Wike) that sparked Wike’s unexpected and unprovoked remark against him.
