According to eyewitness accounts, a head-on collision transpired between a trailer with registration number AYE 218 XC and another vehicle with registration number TTN 556 XA.
One of the vehicles was transporting both livestock and human passengers from Ilorin to Ogbomoso, while the trailer was reportedly en route from Lagos to Kano.
Emergency responders, including police officers from the ‘G’ Division Police Command, Oloje, swiftly arrived at the scene to manage the situation. Injured victims were promptly transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
The deceased individuals have been retrieved by their families.
While the precise cause of the accident remains under investigation, preliminary findings suggest that reckless driving and excessive speed may have been contributing factors.
A video of the incident, captured by a rescuer, depicts the devastating scene with the truck lying on its side and over 10 bodies scattered across the roadway. The video includes a voice urging the government to implement stringent measures to curb the frequent and deadly accidents occurring on this particular stretch of road.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) state command has yet to release an official statement.
However, Sector Commander Muftau Irekeola confirmed the tragic toll in a telephone interview, stating that approximately 15 individuals had perished, while three others sustained injuries. He added that he was awaiting a detailed report from his team in the Olooru unit.
