Lecturers at Taraba State University have expressed appreciation for Governor Agbu Kefas’s commitment to improving staff welfare and addressing key challenges facing the institution.
Speaking with The Guardian on Friday on the school premises, the lecturers praised the governor for implementing the New Minimum Wage, which they said has elevated the university’s status and boosted morale among staff.
Christian Amuche, Dean of the College of Postgraduate Studies, said that the salary adjustment has positioned the state university as one of the highest-paying institutions in the country.
“This development complements the governor’s free education policy and will significantly enhance the quality of education in the state,” Amuche said.
Dr. Samuel Shikaa, an Associate Professor of Applied Mathematics, also lauded the governor’s timely intervention in resolving a recent industrial dispute, describing it as a demonstration of exceptional political will.
“The administration’s holistic approach to issues like funding, earned academic allowances, staff pensions, salary backlogs, and the establishment of a functional Governing Council is commendable,” Shikaa stated.
He said that these efforts reflect the governor’s commitment to education and workforce development, urging the government to sustain the momentum.
Similarly, Dr. Amos Jev, an Associate Professor of Political Science, applauded Governor Kefas’s approach to resolving the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike.
He noted that the governor’s decisions have distinguished him as a leader prioritizing public interest.
“Unlike some leaders who make controversial decisions during such crises, Governor Kefas acted with wisdom and ensured the institution’s future was safeguarded,” Jev said.
He also beckoned to the governor to continue investing in education, emphasizing its role in societal liberation and long-term development.
“The governor is laying a foundation that posterity will remember. By prioritizing education, he is securing the future for generations to come,” Jev added.
Also collaborating with his colleagues, the Chairperson of ASUU at the university, Dr. Garba Joshua-Mbave, expressed gratitude to Governor Kefas for his intervention and proactive leadership in resolving the issues that led to the strike.
The lecturers urged the administration to sustain ongoing reforms and address pending issues, emphasizing that these efforts will further strengthen the university and ensure continued progress.
