The division, The Guardian, learnt forced an emergency GAC meeting on Tuesday, with the two camps, one for Obasa and the other for Meranda, not shifting ground on their stand.
This is coming a day after the lawmakers stood in support of the new speaker, leading her to take full possession of the speaker’ office.
Speaking on behalf of the Obasa camp, a GAC member from Isolo, Muraina Akanbi Taiwo, in a statement said: “The act of the lawmakers to reconvene during recess is illegal, shows total disregard and clear disrespect for the leadership of the party.
“Obviously, GAC is split over the matter, but we will all defer to the final decision of our de facto leader, President Bola Tinubu to resolve the crisis.”
It was gathered that Taiwo issued the statement after the GAC meeting which held at the State House, Marina, failed to achieve a united front on the matter.
It was further gathered that the GAC has resolved to take the matter to President Tinubu today (Wednesday) in Abuja for a final decision on the removal of Obasa as Speaker.
