Man, 43, rapes 13-year-old in Delta

The Delta State Police Command have arrested a 41-year-old man, Godwin Okoli, who allegedl raped a girl, 13 (name witheld) in her parents home in the Uvwie Local Government Area of the state.

The state’s police spokesperson, SP. Bright Edafe, in a statement on X, said the incident allegedly occurred on January 3, 2025.

The suspect while confessing to the crime at the Ekpam Police Station said that as he saw that the mother of the girl was not around, he went to the girl’s parent’s house and had carnal knowledge of her.

Initially, the suspect said that the girl’s mother begged him to look after the children for her as she was on her way to the market and he refused but as she left, he went to the house of the girl’s parents and raped the 13-year-old.

Godwin the suspect said, “The mother of the girl came to me that day on January 3 and begged me to help her put an eye on her kids as she was going to market but I initially refused and she left.

“Later, I went to their house and saw her and her brother but later as I was there and I saw that she was alone, I pushed her to the bed and slept with her.”

Edafe, who made this known on his X handle (formerly Twitter) advised parents, and guardians to be more careful about who they hand their children and wards to when they are not around.

He said, “Parents, be mindful of neighbours you ask to take care of your children in your absence.

“In Ogborikoko, a woman asked her neighbour, a 41-year-old suspect to take care of her children when she was going to market. Before she came back, this suspect entered the house of the neighbour, saw her 13-year-old daughter and brutally defiled her.
