Police arrest two for causing nuisance in Abuja

The Police on Friday arraigned two men, Aliyu Ibrahim and Shamsudeen Aliyu, in a Karu Magistrates Court, Abuja for allegedly causing nuisance.

Aliyu, 20 and Ibrahim, 18, were facing two-count charge of continuous nuisance after injunction to discontinue and making atmosphere harmful to health.

They however pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against them.

The prosecution counsel, Olarewaju Osho, told the court that the defendants committed the said offence on Dec. 12, 2024.

“A team of policemen led by DSP Ayeni Ohimai, attached to Karu police station raided a black spot at Karu abattoir, where criminals were using as hideouts to smoke and sell various hard drugs.

“In the process, the defendants were arrested and brought to the station and in the course of investigation, the defendants were found in possession of dried leaves, suspected to be “Indian Hemp.

“Before now, the defendants were warned to desist from smoking and selling of hard drugs which is poisonous to human health,” Osho said.

He added that the offence contravened sections 199 and 155 of the Penal Code.

The magistrate, Lami Sani, however granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N200, 000 each with one surety in like sum each.

She adjourned the case until March 18, for hearing
