The Chancellor of Precious Cornerstone University (PCU), Bishop Francis Wale Oke, has urged old students to give back to their alma mater as a way of expressing gratitude for the values and knowledge imparted to them.
Oke made this call during the dedication of the ultra-modern Temitayo Felix Owolabi Female Hostel at the PCU, Olaogun, Ibadan.
The hostel was inaugurated by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, represented by his Chief of Staff, Segun Ogunwuyi.
In his address, the Chancellor said, “My dear students, I pray that you will achieve greatness in life. When you have reached great heights, I encourage you to remember this institution and give back to your alma mater as a token of appreciation and commitment to its continued growth. This act of kindness will demonstrate your love and gratitude for the values and knowledge imparted to you by this esteemed institution.”
The governor lauded the initiative of Revd. Dr. Felix Owolabi and his wife, Temitayo, who donated N450 million to complete the project.
Representing the governor, the Chief of Staff, Segun Ogunwuyi lauded the initiative of the couple for their love for the promotion of education. While opening the facility for the use of the female students of the institution, he prayed that God would replenish the ability of the couple to do more.
Bishop Oke appreciated the couple’s commitment to education, praying that God would replenish their resources to do more. He also advised old students to remember their institution and contribute to its growth and development.
Other dignitaries in attendance included former Minister for Special Duties Elder Wole Oyelese, former Military Governor of old Oyo State Gen. Oladayo Popoola, and Dr. Bayo Adegoke. The students of PCU expressed joy over the completion of the hostel building, saying it would bring them great relief.
The hostel project was initially stalled due to the high cost of building materials, but Bishop Owolabi and his wife intervened, covering the entire cost of completion. Bishop Owolabi attributed his wife’s encouragement to his decision to donate generously, saying she pushed him to fulfill his destiny.
