The Kaduna Good Governance Forum (KGGF) has faulted former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s comment on Governor Uba Sani.
The group said El-Rufai, the former Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), is attempting to rewrite history and assert himself as the owner of Kaduna state.
The group accused El-Rufai of harassment and distraction of the incumbent Governor while threatening him with the 2027 general elections.
According to the forum, the former governor’s actions smack of desperation to rewrite history and suit his narrative.
Both members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Sani and El-Rufai have been at loggerheads since the former took over governance in Kaduna from the latter.
El-Rufai, blocked by the Senate in 2023 from becoming minister for security reasons, has recently become a vocal critic of the APC and the Bola Tinubu administration. According to him, the party encourages poor leadership.
In an interview on Monday on TVC, Sani addressed his feud with El-Rufai, saying his predecessor’s criticism against Tinubu was for selfish reasons. He also challenged politicians who were confident of defeating Tinubu in 2027 to get prepared.
In response, El-Rufai lambasted Sani for defending President Bola Tinubu, alleging that he has received N150 billion from the Federal Government.
But in a statement on Wednesday, signed by Comrade Richard Amos, the forum praised Sani’s efforts in healing the wounds of insecurity and corruption inflicted during el-Rufai’s tenure.
He argued that El-Rufai’s threats towards Governor Sani are a threat to democracy, as only the people of Kaduna state have the right to decide their leader.
Amos further criticized el-Rufai’s alleged role in perpetuating insecurity in the northwest and called for authorities to investigate his administration’s malfeasance.
The forum demanded that the former governor stop his alleged revisionism and allow the current administration to work to restore peace and unity to Kaduna State.
“For a man who, as governor, precipitated the insecurity that now ravages the entire northwest by placing terrorists and bandits on salary, we are concerned that the threat to Governor Uba Sani is not just about politics,” the group said.
“We have cause to worry that el-Rufai will deploy the state’s funds in his possession to unleash these terrorists on the state consistent with his strategy of seeking to destroy that which he cannot control.”
