The Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru, has said the killings at Amagu Nkalaha Local Government Area of the state, which happened on February 2, were not carried out by herdsmen but by criminal elements within the community.

According to the governor, he came to this conclusion following investigations by security agencies into the attack, which left about 17 residents dead and several houses burnt.

Nwifuru made this known after a church service at the Government House Chapel on Sunday.

“The recent killings at Amegu Nkalaha Community were carried out by some criminal elements from within the community, not herdsmen as earlier alleged,” Nwifuru stated. “This is an unfortunate situation.”

Nwifuru also announced the recall of four commissioners and the Executive Secretary of the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, who were suspended in November last year.

The officials included Dr. Moses Ekuma (Commissioner for Health), Hon. Chinedum Nkah (Commissioner for Water Resources), Engr. Francis Orie (Commissioner for Housing), and Hon. Uchenna Igwe (Commissioner for Local Government.
