The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the discovery of the body of Sikiru Olatunji, a 76-year-old man who was reported missing on February 8, 2025. His remains were found approximately one and a half kilometres from Wasinmi Abule Maria, near Balogun Village in the Yewa North Local Council of Ogun State.

Confirming the discovery in a statement yesterday, the command’s spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, said the deceased was found lying face-up with his cutlass beside him.

According to her, there were no visible signs of violence on his body, and the cause of his death remains unclear. Odutola said the discovery followed an extensive bush-clearing operation and a coordinated search by police officers from the Imasayi Division, assisted by Amotekun operatives, the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), the Baale, and local hunters.

“Following the recovery, the deceased’s family requested and were granted custody of the body for burial. However, the police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding his death and are requesting information from the public to assist their inquiry. The Ogun State Police Command urges anyone with relevant details to come forward and help ensure a thorough investigation,” Odutola added.
