As preparations for the 4th International Conference on Financing for Development (FFD4) continue to intensify, most developing countries hold high expectations that issues of financing for the Sustainable Development Goals and their debt burden would be adequately addressed in the conference. The FFD4 conference is scheduled to be held in Seville, Spain, from 30th June to 3 July 2025.
During the presentation of the zero draft of the outcome document for the FFD4 conference, Nigeria’s diplomat and Vice Chair of the 79th Session of the United Nations Second Committee, Ezekwesiri David Anyaegbu delivered Nigeria’s statement.
In his statement, while thanking the Co-facilitators for the process, Mexico, Nepal, Norway and Zambia, Diplomat Anyaegbu called for prioritization of the reform of the international financial architecture to engender a rules-based non-discriminatory international trading system where goods from Africa are not restricted or categorized as substandard. Diplomat Anyaegbu also called for support for the adoption of a UN Framework Convention on International Tax Cooperation to ensure African economies are no longer shortchanged through exclusion in global tax decision-making.
Diplomat Anyaegbu, in his capacity as the Vice Chair of UN Second Committee, coordinated the facilitation of UN microeconomic resolutions on investment, debt, trade, financing for development, illicit financial flows, and tax reforms. He holds a First Class honours degree in BSc. Political Science and Public Administration and is on the verge of completing his PhD. studies in International Relations in the United Kingdom later this year.
