Lagos, foundation hosts Judo seminar to enhance coaches’ skills

The Lagos State Judo Association, in collaboration with the Omoba Segun Gbayi Judo Foundation, has trained Judo coaches and referees to comply with international standards.

The seminar, tagged “Train the Trainers,” was held in Lagos and was attended by Judo coaches and referees from across the South-West.

Chairman of the Omoba Segun Gbayi Judo Foundation, Segun Gbayi, stated that the aim of the seminar was to equip coaches and referees in the region with the necessary skills required to develop judo in their respective states.

He added that the seminar also aimed to keep participants abreast of the latest implemented rules by the International Judo Federation.

Chairman of the Lagos State Judo Association, Mr. Hammed Sheriff, commended the foundation for initiating the programme, adding that the Lagos State Judo Association would continue to provide support when necessary.

Participants commended the foundation for demonstrating its commitment to the development of Judo.

The seminar included participants such as Lagos State Judo head coach, Sensei Janet Ihaza, and former Commonwealth Games Bronze Medalist, Aremu Christy Obekpa, who also serves as the Head Coach of the Ogun State Judo Association.

At the end of the seminar, the foundation honored retired coaches from the South-West with cash awards as a token of appreciation for their contributions to the development of the sport over the years.
