Amid reports of a robbery attack in a hall of residence at the University of Ibadan, the institution’s management claims there was no robbery attack.
On Saturday, some miscreants intruded into the Obafemi Awolowo Hall of Residence, removed bathroom light bulbs, and carted away phones belonging to students.
Some students reported that one of them had a gun.
In a statement signed by the university registrar, Ganiyu Saliu, the university management described this incident as a “lone stealing attack.”
“The management of the University of Ibadan has read with dismay the news about a lone stealing attack in one of the halls of residence of the university.

“Management states that it was a lone thief who entered two of the rooms in the hall and stole the mobile phones of the students. The rooms were inadvertently opened by the students themselves,” the statement read in part.
Saliu further noted that the police were alerted and efforts to track the thieves are ongoing.
He described people who tagged the incident as a robbery attack as misguided newshounds who have intentions of embarrassing the university.
He added, “Management states that it was not a case of armed robbery as being touted by misguided newshounds bent on embarrassing the university.
“Management states that no students were harmed or traumatised and wishes to assure members of the public of the safety of lives and property on the campus.”
