
Of the 65,073 candidates who sat for the second series of the 2024 West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations (WASSCE), 34,878, representing 53.6% of the population, passed.
According to the examination’s officiating body, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), this group obtained credit and above in a minimum of five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, which are compulsory subjects.
The council further noted that 43,923 candidates, representing 67.55% of those who sat for the exam, obtained credit and above in a minimum of five subjects, with or without English Language and/or Mathematics.
The results of 2,577 candidates were withheld.
WAEC stated that their results were withheld due to allegations of examination malpractice.

It has directed candidates in this category to log on to the WAEC Examination Malpractice Portal to respond to the allegations.
WAEC added that it would investigate all reported cases of examination malpractice.
“All reported cases will be investigated, including exhibits obtained, alongside candidates’ representations lodged on the portal.
“These will be evaluated, and reports presented to the appropriate committee of the council for determination. The committee’s decision(s) will be communicated directly to the affected candidates,” the council noted in a press statement.
