Dolphin Swimming League season six enters final leg
The battle for the top spot in the Season Six of the yearly Dolphin Swimming League will climax on Saturday. Grange School, Lagos is hosting the final leg of the competition.
The 12 participating teams are fighting for the top honours as well as an opportunity to make the Nigerian contingent to the International School Sport Federation (ISF) Gymnasiade in Serbia, this April.
Organised by Dynaspro Sports Promotion in collaboration with Advanta Interactive, the league is technically supported by the Lagos State Swimming Association and the Nigeria Aquatic Federation. It is endorsed by the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) and the Nigeria School Sport Federation (NSSF).
Speaking on the league’s contributions to swimming development, a former president of the Nigerian Aquatic Federation (NAF) Babatunde Fatayi-Williams, praised its organisers for their consistency and called for additional support.
“I’m so happy that the organisers have been able to keep the league going up to this Season Six. You can see all the excitement from the children.”
The benefit of this kind of programme, this league format, is that it keeps the swimmers training regularly because they know they have legs of the competition coming along. So it makes it easier for the coaches to keep the swimmers working, and over the years, this league has produced swimmers that went on to represent the country at the junior level in the region, on the continent, and even at the World Junior Championships.
That shows the quality of products that have come out of this league,” he added. Defending champions, Grange and St. Saviour’s Schools aim to continue their dominance against Lagos Preparatory & Secondary School (LPSS), Greensprings, Atlantic Hall, Riverbank, Temple, Corona, and Whitesands Lagoon, as well as Children International School, Boken Aquatics and Team UNAT.
