Jigawa govt disburses N733m to 281 retirees

The Jigawa State and Local Government Contributory Pension Board has disbursed N733 million to 281 retirees as payment for terminal and death benefits.
The Executive Secretary of the board, Dr Bilyaminu Shitu, stated this during the disbursement exercise, on Wednesday in Dutse.
He said the amount would cover payment of gratuities, death benefits and death pension balance to retirees and relatives of deceased workers.
“The 281 workers were the staff of state and local government civil service and local education authorities, who voluntary retired or reached retirement age and those who died in active service.
“The sum of N542 million would be paid to 208 staff that retired from the service, and N144 million will be disburse to the 47 relatives of those that died in active service.
“More than N47 million would be paid to 26 beneficiaries, who retired from the service and started receiving monthly pension, but died before reaching their minimum period of five years after retirement,” he said.
Shitu said the board had ensured up-to-date payment of entitlements to retirees, including those that died in active service.
This, he said, demonstrated the state government’s commitment to the welfare of retirees and ensuring financial security of workers.
Mr Murtala Babura, a beneficiary, commended the gesture, adding that it would improve their social and economic wellbeing.
