Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command attached to the Surulere Division yesterday arrested 34-year-old Olayinka Bakare and 50-year-old Udeh Michael for allegedly robbing an individual of a Toyota Corolla saloon car, laptops, and a phone in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State at about 2:00 a.m.
The Guardian learnt that, acting on a tip-off from the car owner, officers of the Surulere Division were swiftly deployed to pursue the armed robbers, who were fleeing with the stolen vehicle and other items.
The police operation yielded immediate results as two suspects were apprehended and the car recovered. However, one of the suspects managed to escape.
Meanwhile, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Moshood Jimoh, has directed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Surulere Division to transfer all officers involved in the arrest and recovery operation to the Command Headquarters for commendation.
The commissioner also ordered that the case be handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yaba for a thorough investigation to apprehend other members of the armed robbery gang, dismantle their network, and recover the remaining stolen items and operational tools. He issued a stern warning to criminals in Lagos State to desist from illegal activities or face arrest and prosecution in accordance with the law.
“The swift response and successful arrest of the armed robbers, along with the recovery of the stolen vehicle and other valuables, is highly commendable,” Jimoh said.
He urged Lagos residents to maintain their confidence in the Lagos State Police Command’s ability to ensure their safety and encouraged them to report any suspicious activity or security concerns to the nearest police station or through the distress call number: 0806 329 9264.
