Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has relaxed the curfew imposed on Ifon and Ilobu communities following months of tension over a boundary dispute.
The governor had initially enforced a 7 pm to 7 am curfew on January 16, 2025, to curb violent clashes between the two communities.
However, citing significant progress in restoring peace, the government announced a revision of the restriction period to 10 pm to 4 am, effective immediately.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr. Kolapo Alimi.
According to the statement, Governor Adeleke commended the security agencies and local stakeholders for their efforts in restoring stability. He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring lasting peace in the affected areas.
Despite the relaxed curfew, Adeleke ordered 24-hour security surveillance in the two towns, with personnel from the Nigerian Army, Police, and Civil Defence Corps maintaining law and order.
“All stakeholders in the communities are further advised to cooperate with the state government to resolve the issues amicably,” the statement read.
Governor Adeleke called on traditional rulers, community leaders, and residents to take advantage of the ongoing holy month of Ramadan to pray for peace and unit.
