The Kano State government, at the weekend, commenced the annual Ramadan free feeding program meant to provide relief to the less privileged in society.
The initiative is designed to provide meals to over 8,000 residents daily during the breaking of fast across 91 designated feeding centers in the metropolis.
The Kano State government has set aside N1 billion in the 2025 approved appropriation for the daily feeding of residents during the month of Ramadan.
Unveiling the daily meal at Dandali Centre, Fagge Local Government Area of the state, Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, explained that the humanitarian gesture will last for the next 27 days of the fasting month of Ramadan.
According to him, under the leadership of Governor Abba Yusuf, the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) administration has institutionalized the initiative to support vulnerable residents through daily iftar meals during the holy month of Ramadan.
The Deputy Governor, who chaired the special feeding programme, added that the gesture was in recognition of the needs of the state’s large population of Ramadan observers. He stressed the state’s commitment to improving the social and economic development of the state.
“Consequently, the government has approved the 2025 Ramadan Feeding Programme, with 91 designated feeding centers across the state. The initiative will cater to 91,000 people daily for 27 days.
“To ensure the effective implementation of this year’s programme, catering service providers have been engaged to prepare and deliver 91,000 plates of food per day across all designated centers.
“We are satisfied with the smooth takeoff of the initiative. Let me further urge the catering companies involved in the feeding program to ensure timely and efficient delivery of meals to all feeding centers to achieve the programme’s objective,” Gwarzo said.
During the flag-off ceremony, His Excellency, the Deputy Governor, was accompanied by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the Hon. Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Sheikh Tijjani Auwal, the Permanent Secretary, Deputy Governor’s Office, and other top government officials, who serve as members of the Ramadan Feeding Programme Committee.
