Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has appealed to Igbo investors in Lagos to redirect their wealth and investments back to their homeland in the South-East.
Speaking at the “Anambra Homeland Consciousness Initiative” event in Lagos, Soludo emphasised the need for Ndigbo to prioritise the development of their region.
He said: “We, Ndigbo, are a blessed and distinguished people with wisdom, uncommon dynamism, and ingenuity. We are like the cactus plant that thrives even in the desert, with the resilience to overcome challenges. Like the cedar tree, we flourish and prosper, generating wealth in every corner of the world.”
Soludo noted that while the Igbo people are known for their entrepreneurial spirit and wealth, they often prioritise investments in other regions over their homeland.
“Charity, as they say, begins at home. It has become imperative for us to introspect and reevaluate this tendency in light of the current political and economic realities.”
Soludo urged Igbo investors to adopt a “Homeland Consciousness” approach, channelling their resources towards building a sustainable and prosperous homeland. “We need to build business hubs, create boom towns, and stimulate the influx of foreign capital into our homeland,” he said.
The governor reiterated his commitment to supporting initiatives that will make the region a thriving economic centre. He called on all Igbo entrepreneurs to take bold steps towards building a sustainable and prosperous homeland, saying: “We must exercise caution and be proactive in safeguarding our business interests.”
