The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has announced that he would announce his preferred candidate to succeed him in 2026.

Makinde, who has been the governor of the state since 2019 and is currently serving his current term, made this known during 11th Omituntun Ramadan lecture, which took place at the government house arcade in Ibadan, the state’s capital city.

While addressing the audience, he said that his billboard in the Isale Alfa area of the state should not be removed, and the picture of his preferred candidate will grace the billboard in January 2026.

“I’m not yet a lame duck. Please leave my billboard at Isale Alfa,” said Makinde.

“In January 2026, we know that political activities will start. I will tell you the picture of the person that will be installed there,” he added.

Away from politics, the governor urged practicing Muslims in the state to reflect on the need for peaceful coexistence in society irrespective of religious leanings, particularly during the month of Ramadan.

He also solicited prayers to support his administration.
