Official tasks students on hardwork, sportsmanship

The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Dr Nasir Sani-Gwarzo, has advised students to embrace teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship in all their engagements, noting that these values would showcase individual strengths and collective efforts.
Sani-Gwarzo, who gave the advice at the 105th edition of King’s College Inter-House Sports Competition, said the event was also a platform where every participant will have the chance to demonstrate dedication, discipline, and determination.
Sani-Gwarzo, who was represented by the Desk Officer, Southwest Zone of the ministry, Mrs Ukamaka Okafor, enjoined the students not to forget that sports teach some of the most valuable life lessons, reminding us that success does not come without hardwork, and setbacks are just opportunities to rise stronger.
“The truth of victory lies not in the trophies we collect, but in the relationship we build and character we develop. I urge all our students, whether you are participating or supporting, to embrace the spirit of sportsmanship,” he said.
Sani-Gwarzo reminded the participants that it is not the victory alone that matters, but the effort, spirit, and passion put into it.
The Principal, Magagi Cheye, said the competition is a testament to the rich history and tradition of excellence that the school embodies.
According to him, the event has been a cornerstone of the school’s culture for over a century, fostering friendships, building character, and promoting academic and extra-curricular excellence.
He said: “Sports have a transforming power that unites and inspires people. We hope to achieve and reinforce the ethos of unity in diversity, and togetherness among our students.
He expressed hope that the event would help in discovering and nurturing talents, capable of reaching incredible heights.
Cheye also hoped the event would serve as stepping stone towards a brighter future for ambitious athletes.
Chairman of the event, Busuyi Onabolu, charged the students to give exceptional performance, noting that the college has a rich history of producing athletes for Nigeria.
