Warns landlords against rent hike
Lagos State Government, yesterday, restated its commitment to the provision of critical infrastructure to boost the economic prosperity of the state.
It, however, urged landlords not to increase house rents.
The state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, gave the assurance and appeal, yesterday, during the official commissioning of Demurin, Agidi, and Church Streets in Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area (LCDA).
He urged residents of the state to “work together to preserve the infrastructure for current and future generations.
Sanwo-Olu, at the event, attended by traditional rulers, government officials, and community leaders, highlighted the impact of the newly completed roads on transportation and economic activities in the area.
The governor expressed satisfaction with the successful completion of the roads, stating that they would improve connectivity, ease traffic congestion, and enhance the overall well-being of residents.
He, however, cautioned landlords against taking advantage of the development to increase rents.
Sanwo-Olu assured residents that his administration would continue to invest in road infrastructure across the state, promising that more communities would benefit from similar projects.
Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA, Dele Osinowo, praised the state government for reconstructing the roads, describing them as a game-changer for the local economy.
He acknowledged that property values in the area had risen due to the improved infrastructure but appealed to landlords to resist the urge to increase rents immediately.
Similarly, Obafemi Saheed, who represents Kosofe II in the Lagos State House of Assembly, commended the governor for fulfilling his campaign promise.
He said: “With this road, you no longer need to pass through Ketu or Ojota to get to Ikorodu. From Alapere, you can go straight to Mile 12 and connect to Ikorodu with ease.”
