The Kano State Joint Security Taskforce has arrested 28 suspected miscreants (Yankaba) for allegedly planning to engage in thuggery-related activities during the holy month of Ramadan.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the committee’s Public Relations Officer and State Commissioner of Information, Ibrahim Waiya.

According to the statement, the arrests were made between March 3 and 13, 2025, following intelligence reports.

“Between March 3rd and 13th 2025, joint security operations conducted by the Kano State Government Task Force Committee on Peace Restoration and Youth Rehabilitation resulted in the arrest of 28 suspected thugs (Yan Daba) and the recovery of dangerous weapons and illicit drugs,” the statement said.

Among the recovered items were 283 parcels and 14 wraps of suspected Cannabis Sativa, a cutlass, three scissors, a pointed iron, two bottles of “suck and die” poison, 13 packets of knockout fireworks, and a rubber solution.

The suspects have been charged to Chief Magistrate Court Number 12 at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport for prosecution.
To maintain order during Ramadan, the committee reaffirmed the ban on all forms of traditional performances known as Tashe, which have been linked to thuggery.

The use of fireworks and bangers has also been prohibited, with violators facing legal action.

Taskforce Chairman Yusuf Kofarmata praised the dedication of the security personnel involved and urged residents to support law enforcement agencies in ensuring a safer Kano State.
