Reps urge FG to intervene in communities massacre
Ondo State House of Assembly has summoned the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor on Security Matters, Gbenga Atiba and the Commander of Amotekun Corps, Adetunji Adeleye, over the insecurity situation in the state.
The House, while instructing the duo to appear at the Hallowed Chamber on or before March 25, 2025, frowned on the spate of kidnappings and killings in the state.
Speaker of the Assembly, Olamide Oladiji, who made the pronouncement at the plenary, said that the rate of kidnappings had become frightening, particularly with the recent abduction of surveyors in Ilu-Abo in Akure North Local Council of the state.
Relatedly, the House of Representatives has called on the federal government to take immediate action following the gruesome attacks on communities in Akure North Local Council of Ondo State by suspected armed herdsmen.
Raising the matter on the floor of the House, yesterday, Abiodun Derin Adesida, lamented killings and kidnappings in Igbatoro Familugba and other communities.
He said that the attackers believed to be herdsmen, killed several residents and abducted a farmer, who was later released after paying N1.2 million as ransom.
Besides, he said the violence escalated when armed men raided more villages within the IgbatoroFamilugba community, killing nine persons in their sleep, hacking others with machetes as they attempted to escape, and setting houses ablaze.
The House, therefore, urged the federal government to take immediate and decisive action to arrest and prosecute the perpetrators as well as ensure the urgent release of any kidnapped victim.
