Land recertification: Kano threatens to expose defaulters

Kano State Government has said the names of owners of landed properties who have failed to recertify their title will be published in national dailies for public notice.

The government also vowed to expose the defaulter’s names in public locations – Kano State Library, Audu Bako Secretariat, Gidan Murtala, the Kano State High Court, and other places.

Addressing a press briefing on the development on Tuesday, Commissioner for Land and Physical Planning, Abduljabar Mohammad Umar, said the public notice becomes pertinent as an alternative option to enforce compliance.

The commissioner disclosed an extension of the deadline for recertification of titles by 60 days to enable ample time for the renewal of the landed properties.

Umar reminded the public that 241,025 properties across six metropolitan LGAs have been captured in the database since the beginning of the exercise in November 2024.

The Commissioner warned that the government remained firm in sanctioning property owners who refused to meet the deadline, including revocation of their lands.

He explained that the government has embarked on a land property enumeration exercise, to provide a solid foundation for building an accurate, extensive, and up-to-date database in Kano.

The Commissioner said the customer service centre of KANGIS will optimise their services to ensure prompt service at all times, online and physical.
