A wave of public outcry has erupted over what many Nigerians are calling a baseless attempt to smear the reputation of billionaire businesswoman and philanthropist Aisha Achimugu.
Known for her philanthropy and business acumen, Achimugu has provided nearly 5,000 scholarships and created employment opportunities for hundreds. However, recent false claims suggesting she is “on the run” have been widely debunked, with no official charges or warrants issued against her.
Nigerians have taken to social media to denounce the misinformation, questioning the motives behind the campaign.
@Enio_Adegoke tweeted: “See, class, beauty, and brain… Dr Aisha Achimugu, OFR. What an astute businesswoman. She is the GMD/CEO of FELAK CONCEPT GROUP. Very calm and quiet, but loaded… Old Money #OFR.”
Similarly, @Josh_Badmus criticised the trend of targeting successful women with falsehoods: “I know this woman way back, she’s an OFR na. But jealous people go spread fake news. Narcissistic men hiding behind activism and blogging to pull strong women down. #OFR.”
Speaking on the allegations, Achimugu brushed off the claims, stating: “Am I a terrorist or a wanted criminal?” She emphasised that no government agency, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), had linked her to any wrongdoing.
The controversy has reignited discussions on the dangers of misinformation, particularly when used to discredit reputable figures. Many Nigerians are now asking: Who benefits from dragging the name of a respected entrepreneur through the mud?
As the dust settles, one truth remains—Achimugu’s legacy of hard work, philanthropy, and business excellence cannot be erased by baseless propaganda.
