In response to rising security concerns, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has issued a directive requiring individuals and groups to notify law enforcement before embarking on camping or hiking activities.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Wale Ajao, in a statement, emphasised the need, warning that remote and unsecured locations pose significant security risks.

“Failing to inform the police before engaging in such outdoor activities increases vulnerability to criminal threats,” he stated.

The police urge organisers to liaise with law enforcement to obtain guidance on safe routes and necessary security arrangements.

According to the Command, prior notification allows officers to provide expert advice and, where necessary, ensure proper monitoring and protection for participants.

Additionally, the police stressed the importance of accountability, urging organizers to keep track of all participants to prevent cases of missing persons or unforeseen incidents.

“Effective communication with law enforcement, both before and during these activities, is crucial for swift response in emergencies,” he said.

“Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activities and seek security coverage by contacting the FCT Police Command.”
