Court restrains police, SSS from harrassing Fubara’s Chief of Staff

Edison Ehie

A High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has granted an order restraining the Nigeria Police Force, the State Security Service (SSS), and other security agencies from harassing, intimidating, or detaining Edison Ehie, Chief of Staff  to the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara.

The order, issued by Justice I.P.C. Igwe, in a suit No: PHC/1113/CS/2025, also prohibits the security agencies from inviting Ehie for questioning or arresting him in connection with the alleged arson on the Rivers State House of Assembly, which occurred on March 29, 2023.

The court’s decision was made after Ehie, a former lawmaker filed a suit against the Inspector-General of Police and other security chiefs.

In his ruling, Justice Igwe granted the claimant leave to serve the writ of summons on the defendants outside the jurisdiction of the court, specifically in Abuja. The court also permitted Ehie to serve the processes by substituted means.

The court further issued an interim injunction restraining the defendants from taking any action against the former lawmaker pending the hearing of the motion on notice for interlocutory injunction. The court also directed both parties to maintain the status quo ante litem as of March 30, 2025, pending the hearing of the motion.Ehie was required to enter into an undertaking in the sum of N2,000,000.00 (Two Million Naira) to indemnify the defendants if the substantive motion turns out to be frivolous. The substantive case has been adjourned to April 30, 2025, for the motion on notice for interlocutory injunction.
