Akin Alabi mourns Olunloyo’s demise

The lawmaker representing Egbeda/Ona Ara Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and chairman, House Committee on Works, Akin Alabi, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the former Governor of Oyo State and elder statesman, Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo.

The Ibadan-born erudite scholar passed away in the early hours of Sunday, April 6, 2025.

In his tribute, Alabi described him as “a trailblazer, intellectual giant and true son of Ona Ara Local Government whose record of achievements and contributions to humanity will remain evergreen.”

Olunloyo served as Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Commissioner for Education, and the Commissioner for Economic Planning in the Western Region in 1962 and went on to become the Governor of Oyo State in 1983.

Throughout his lifetime, he made immense contributions to public service, economic development, and the intellectual fabric of Nigeria.

“As a proud son of Ona Ara, Dr. Olunloyo made our constituency and Oyo State proud on both national and international stages. His legacy is one we will strive to uphold in Egbeda/Ona Ara Federal Constituency and beyond,” Alabi stated.

He extended his condolences to the Olunloyo family, the people of Ona Ara, and the entire Oyo State, praying for comfort and strength during this period of mourning.
