Indigent student seeks N3.7m for spine surgery

Oluwaseyifunmi

Folorunsho Oluwaseyifunmi, a 25-year-old student of Kwara State Polytechnic, has appealed to well-meaning individuals and organisations to assist him in footing the bill of N2,724,507 for a spine correction surgery which has grounded him for more than two years.

Oluwaseyifunmi was admitted to the spine clinic of the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi, Yaba, Lagos on November 11, 2024, where it showed that there was a progressive back deformity for the past eight years and recurrent mid-back pain for the last year.

According to a medical report signed by a consultant orthopaedic surgeon, Dr Waheed Taoreed, “his parents noted a gradual bending of the back to the right, accompanied by prominence of the right hemithorax and left hip”.

The medical doctor described the pain as a dull, localised ache in the mid-back, which was not aggravated by any specific factors and was temporarily relieved with analgesics.

“The patient reported no neurological symptoms, such as numbness or weakness in the lower limbs.

“Physical examination showed a rightward skew of the back, which did not correct with sitting or forward bending, and tense paravertebral muscles. There was also the prominence of the left hemipelvis.

“Radiographic investigations revealed a thoracic scoliotic curve with a Cobb’s angle of 78 degrees and fusion of the iliac apophysis.

“Based on the clinical presentation and imaging, a diagnosis of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis with a right thoracic curve and secondary lumbar curve was made,” he said.

Oluwaseyifunmi needs financial assistance to undergo surgery, which will cost him N3.7 million.

He can be reached via: 08062203350, while assistance could be made through GTBank, account number: 0455954632 and name: Folorunsho Oluwaseyifunmi Emmanuel.
