Toyin Amuzu Foundation (TAF) has empowered 100 women with point-of-sale kiosks, cash assistance, and business registration in the Abeokuta South local government area of Ogun.
TAF, which is run by a former House of Representatives candidate, Toyin Amuzu, who contested under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said that the initiative was a strategic effort to empower youths to create jobs.
Amuzu explained that the gesture was to ease the economic hardship facing Nigerians and take people some off the streets.
“This initiative is a non-profit, non-governmental, and non-political effort by the Toyin Amuzu Foundation aimed at improving the lives of our people in Abeokuta South,” he said.
He added that the foundation has given out interest-free loans to small and medium-scale enterprises in the past, also executing water projects for over 20 communities and various empowerment programmes for youths and women in Abeokuta South Federal Constituency.
“This initiative is to get at least 200 people off the street, I believe if I can empower 100 people they can as well employ one person each because when they resume in the morning and they feel they are tired by afternoon someone else takes over till evening and the person will be paid at the end of the month,” he said.
“We thought it wise to do business registration for them and we were like what’s business registration without work, we decided to get them POS machines. We thought it wise again that when they would be standing when the sun is much or it’s the rainy season we decided to get kiosks to support them.”
