Court remands man for stealing school property worth N1.1m

Badagry (Lagos State), April 11, 2025 (NAN)A Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, on Friday, ordered the remand of a 45-year-old man, Adeniyi Bashir, after he pleaded guilty to stealing property valued at N1.1 million.

Chief Magistrate Nurudeen Layeni gave the order after the defendant pleaded guilty to a one-count charge of stealing.

He ordered his remand at the Awhajigoh Correctional Centre, Badagry, and adjourned the case until April.24 for review of the facts of the case and sentencing.

Earlier, the prosecutor, ASP Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 27 at about 12:00 a.m. at Mauyon Green School, Magbon, along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

The prosecutor said Bashir stole 20 pieces of aluminum sheets valued at N300,000, seven ceiling fans worth N380,000, and a computer central processing unit valued at N420,000.

“The total value of the stolen items is N1,100,000, all belonging to one Mrs Margret Adasa, the complainant,” he said.

Ekpo told the court that the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
