Police arrest officer, vigilantes for assaulting tricyclist in Adamawa

The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested one of its officers, Inspector Ibrahim Usman, alongside two members of a vigilante group, Papa Andema and Lele Audu, for misconduct and assault on a member of the public.

The arrest, which took place on Monday, followed the circulation of a viral video allegedly showing the trio assaulting a tricyclist in Jimeta. The video sparked public outrage, prompting swift action from the police authorities.

Inspector Usman is attached to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Jimeta, where the incident reportedly occurred. The conduct of the officer and the vigilante members was described by the command as unprofessional and a clear violation of the police ethics and standard operating procedures.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, the Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to accountability and professionalism.

“The command will ensure that appropriate disciplinary actions are taken against the individuals involved, in accordance with extant laws and regulations,” the statement read.

The commissioner further urged members of the public to continue to report cases of misconduct, assuring them that such reports will be treated with the seriousness they deserve.
